What is the brow bone?
The forehead/brow bone is the first bone to develop during childhood, and it grows until adolescence. The growth of the brow bone determines the appearance of the face. If the brow bone is protruded, it will make the face look wider and shorter. However, if your brow bone is too small, your face can look weak and flat. It can also throw off your facial symmetry.
What is brow bone surgery?
Brow bone surgery is performed under general or local anesthesia. The type of anesthesia depends on the extent of the surgery, your overall health, and your preference. The surgeon will make incisions on your skin near your eyes. Or they will make an incision along your hairline and peel your skin forward exposing your bones. This will make it easier to access the brow bone.
A thin plate of metal will be placed in the area where the bone was removed by your surgeon. This will prevent the bone from growing back. In order to hold the metal plate in place, the surgeon will use stitches. The eye sockets will be filled with silicone material to help keep them open.
It will take several days for your eyelid to be closed. You may have difficulty seeing out of one or both eyes during this time. A special tool will be used by your surgeon to break up the dead tissue in the eye sockets. The surgeon will use small instruments to remove the bone that has been overgrown, and then sew the skin back together.
